Although pretend play is usually considered to be something young children do on their own, it is less common today than in the past. Children need more support by having realistic child-sized props. These props are an invitation to play for children and help to stimulate dramatic play. With your donation of realistic quality dress up clothes, my students can deepen their understanding of the world around them. The majority of my students are at the beginning level of dramatic play were they rely on realistic objects in order take on roles and enhance learning. Children elaborate their role-playing by incorporating objects into their make-believe, therefore your donation of dress up materials would make an enormous impact on my students ability to extend their learning. In the Dramatic Play area, my students take on different roles and enact real-life experiences. Children who know how to make-believe develop expansive vocabularies, which is significant in literacy development. They learn how to cooperate with others, solve problems, and think abstractly. All of which are imperative skills for success in school and beyond. When my students pretend they recall and re-create experiences. To do this, they need to form mental images, which aids in developing abstract thought. Abstract thought is essential for understanding symbols such as letter and numbers. When engaging in dramatic play with others, my students have to negotiate roles, agree on topics, and cooperate to portray different situations. Dramatic play also develops my students fine-motor skills when they button and snap clothing as well as their hand-eye coordination. I have seen the positive impact dramatic play has had on the holistic development of my students, and your donation would make an great impact on my students development this year and for years to come.
