The use of headphones to listen to music during individual learning allows students to block out distractions and focus on the activity. Currently, my students are easily distracted by noises like tapping pencils, chairs creaking, kids in the hallway, other students talking, etc. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are listening to music. Let's face it, our kids are all about their music. They constantly have their headphones on anyway. So, why not use it in a way to help them focus and succeed while doing what they want to do. It's a win-win situation!
