My wonderful students and their parents have been working hard to stay connected during distance learning. But being confined at home restricts opportunities to connect with people in our community, and beyond. My goal is to record myself reading these stories aloud and link them to the Google Slides I send out twice weekly. (I am careful to follow the guidelines publishers have laid out during distance learning.) In this way, my objective is that our youngest learners will still get essential exposure to books with diverse characters and universal themes on a consistent basis. And when my students return to our building, the books will be there to continue to be read, shared with my colleagues, and enjoyed by all students at our school. These diverse picture books will help me reach students during distance learning and continue to expand our kindergartners' sense of the world and their place in it.
