Gathered around the carpet, the children are sitting criss-cross applesauce, have their writing folders open on the carpet in front of them. They are eagerly waiting for their turn to share their thoughts and ideas. "I'm sorry...I couldn't hear you." "Could you repeat that one more time?" "Remember, use your speaking voice." Precious sharing time is wasted as the children have to re-read their writing trying to find a voice that will carry across the carpet. Some of their enthusiasm dims when they have to "try again." A microphone that will connect to our ActivBoard will significantly support their efforts to speak clearly as they excitedly share their stories! The children will feel like superstars as they hold the microphone and share their thoughts. They will feel important and special and feel like authors. Technology has become a vital part of our daily instructional plan. These first grade students will need to be technologically proficient to be successful in their lives. We use technology is many different ways in Our classroom. We practice addition and subtraction facts, write messages and stories, complete assignments, and listen to books read to them. Listening to fluent, expressive reading helps children understand how it should sound when they are reading. They hear new vocabulary, rhythm, rhymes, and learn new words as they follow the narration. Headphones with pads will significantly support their learning. The pads will help to muffle the surrounding sounds of a busy working first grade classroom. They will be able to concentrate on the text or task in front of them. Imagine the children "getting lost" in the books they are reading! These headphones have volume control which will help keep their hearing safe. Having their own headphones will help also help keep germs from spreading.
