Our classroom is unique in our school as one of the only ones that allows for student choice when it comes to seating location and furniture. During 20+ years of teaching, I'm convinced children need to move and they concentrate best when given the chance to wiggle around while they work. We have 2 coveted Hokki stools in our classroom already but my students desperately need more. They try to make do by wiggling around on regular chairs but it's obvious they're not comfortable. I noticed a huge jump in engagement years ago when I took away the standard rows of desks and immovable chairs and replaced them with many seating options. Students became more accountable and in charge of their learning. Through opportunity to choose, they learn to pay attention to what their brain and body need in order to be the best learner they can be. Thank you for supporting their learning!
