Second graders go through many pencils on a daily basis and our pencil sharpener has taken a turn for the worst. Students being able to use a sharpened pencil each day to be creative and complete assignments is important in their education. These hands on activities will help build my students vocabulary, reading comprehension, and increase creativity in their writing skills. Using the hands on activities will give scholars the opportunity to practice the skills before putting them on paper so they don't feel overwhelmed. The paper will be used to learn writing skills and to continue the practice of writing words, building sentences, paragraphs and stories. The paragraph and story builders will help scholars improve building a paragraph or story especially if they struggle with writing or being creative. The writing process folders will help students remember what steps they will need to become independent writers. They can also use the writing process folder for references of word list and writing topics. These writing folders will also be used each year. Having these tools in the classroom will shape how a scholar continues to feel about continuing their education and knowing that there are resources available for them to be successful!
