Reading in a second language has proven to increase language acquisition at rates unlike any other method. Reading choice books helps to engage students in the material they are reading. Our school teaching second language through a Comprehensible Input(CI) and TPR, TPRS lens, and Free Voluntary Reading is a very impactful part of CI teaching. These readers would significantly change the rate at which my students acquire Spanish. They would also impact my students ability to enjoy reading as they explore new cultures through books and characters that they can relate to. Each of these books has a different cultural backdrop, include various types of characters and adventures chosen with specific students and their interests in mind. This classroom library would not change language acquisition in my classroom, but would grow cultural competency and awareness. It will help my students to learn about the world around them. In Foreign Language education, engaging in the world outside the walls of our classrooms is an essential component to our curriculum. These books can give my students a sneak peak into what is out there. They can begin to form knowledge of other cultures, and other places both in the United States, and across the Globe. This library is more than just a library.
