Whole class teaching - in centers or on the carpet - fun and engaging for all my Cupcake Kinder Kids! In our classroom we work as a family and community, which also matches their home life. CARPET TIME - About 60% of the day. Being physically closer fosters more active listening, more engagement, and more empathy for one another as they share ideas, hold conversations, and work together as a whole group. I need to provide work instructions to my students quickly and minimize the time they "loose" the info and ensure they can understand and see the modeling that I am performing. Any time you are engaged in whole class instruction, it will need to be as short and as engaging as humanly possible. To get the most out of the brief whole class teaching you must do, get kids up close to you. Being spread out around the room during a whole class lesson makes it much more difficult to hold their attention. Centers/Daily 5 Time - About 35% of the day. In order to keep energy flowing and Kinder groups working together while having fun (learning disguised as "play" lol). Games help a lot with ELL students! We MUST ensure they are learning and mastering the math and phonics basics. These center games and hands-on type materials help retain the information. ..Plus, its a break from the media/videos (which are super awesome, but we need some media breaks, too).
