My students will benefit from these costumes, backdrops, and props in many ways during this musical. One benefit is that students foster a love of public speaking through positive interactions and teamwork in a healthy environment. They also develop skills in responsibility because they have to show up to rehearsals, learn lines, know when to come onstage, and know when and how to deliver lines. The costumes will be used to help get the students into full character. The backdrops will be used on our tiny stage to help set the scenes. My students always look forward to our musicals. We always invite the elementary and middle school students to view our final dress rehearsal during school. This opportunity has a lasting impact on the high school performers, as well as the elementary and middle school students that get to watch the shows. Performing these musicals sparks an interest in these students in furthering their education in the arts, as well as maintaining a high retention in the middle and high school choirs in the following years.
