Take Chances, Make Mistakes, Get Messy!, stated Ms. Frizzle! Nearpod.com is the closest I can get to helping kids love science like Ms. Frizzle did! Nearpod.com allows teachers to develop lessons or use existing lessons in a power point style where the teacher will decide whether they do the lesson live or on their own. In our class we do them live as a group when we are in class and on their own when they have e-learning days! Each student has Nearpod lessons on their own screen and during live lessons all screens flip with teachers touch of a button. Quizzes, polls, drawings, and field trips are programmed within the lessons. So, if you are talking about the Amazon, you can take a quick field trip to the Amazon to see what it really looks like! It's amazing. 6th grade students attention span for learning is about 7-8 minutes. Nearpod.com screens usually change every 2 minutes. Each lesson is set up so that it switches activities within the 7-8 minutes. For example, the first 3 screens we read and discuss about the slide, then the next screen is a quiz, field trip, or drawing. Then, we head back to reading a few slides, then it switches back to another activity! My students have been enjoying the free version and the 30 day trial that include field trips!
