Music is a special subject because all students can connect to it. The materials used within the general music classroom can greatly enhance the experience. Movement in music has been clinically proven to improve a person's overall well-being and strengthen their emotional intelligence and spatial awareness. By using scarves during the movement activity in class, students will be able to express what the music makes them feel by using the scarves as an extension of their bodies. The scarves will be used to reflect the mood of the music being played. The effect will be kinesthetically pleasing as the students allow their bodies to flow with the scarves along to the music. The classroom instruments will also enrich the students' development within music. The bongo drum will be passed around for the "Superstar" student to keep the steady beat for the rest of the class during a music making activity. The triangle will be used to add the extra sparkle as students create soundscapes to children's books. The rhythm sticks will be used to teach each student learn how to keep the steady beat as a class. They will also learn simple ostinatos and learn how to properly hold a stick with the right playing technique. The scarves, classroom instruments, and rhythm sticks will foster an appreciation and deeper understanding of the performing arts in each of the students.
