In my classroom there are no chairs. Why? Because research from brain scans has shown that when we are moving our brains are more activated and as a result, we learn more. So in my classroom, I never tell my students to sit still, instead, I encourage them to move and wiggle while standing to activate their minds and enhance learning. I do not use chairs in my room, I use seat cushions on the floor for them to stand on and wiggle all they want. They can jump, stomp and move their feet. As a result they are very engaged in a lesson!
