I am a middle school interventionist. My students are beginning decoders and struggle with comprehension. Many are English language learners and students with disabilities. Unfortunately, they have made it all the way to middle school without knowing how to read. My beginning decoders in middle school are embarrassed by their inability to read well and need a private area with books fit for them, making reading finally fun! Practice makes perfect and we must exercise our brains! I want my students to become avid readers who read for pleasure. I hope to improve their fluency, comprehension, and overall sentiment toward school. This will lead to improved academic performance across all subject areas and test scores.
