Students like mine who have sensory processing challenges have trouble organizing and responding to information that comes through the senses. They may knock into people or things in order to get proprioceptive input to their muscles or joints. They may also engage in challenging, unsafe problem behavior when these sensory needs aren't met. I am requesting two crash pads to provide a safe alternative for my students to meet their sensory needs and decrease sensory seeking behaviors. Crash pads are dense, heavy, and soft pillows that give children a safe place to jump, run into, roll on, or whatever they need to do to organize their sensory input and calm their bodies. Meeting their sensory needs will help calm their bodies for learning and decrease problem behaviors that interfere with skill acquisition.
