Chromebooks have become an excellent communication resource in the classroom. Students have been able to engage more effectively with the lesson and with each other. Using tools such as Google docs and slides students can work collaboratively with each other in class or outside of class. The possibilities are endless. English Language learners especially can benefit from technology by giving them opportunities to communicate more effectively in the native language as well as to help them earn English. Chromebooks also help with parent engagement by giving parents the opportunity to see what their child is doing in class. One example of this is with the use of Google Classroom. Parents can receive weekly updates on their child's assignments and classroom work. Another great tool with the Chromebooks is FlipGrid which allows students to make short videos. Students make "progress report" videos for the parent-teacher conference day and play them for their parents when the come in for their conference. This could be especially useful for our EL students who would be able to record videos in their native language so parents could hear and understand directly from their own child. These are just a few of the ways that Chromebooks could help with parent engagement and student learning. Thank you for supporting our students and our classrooms.
