Many studies have shown that drumming improves focus and wakes up both sides of the brain and body. Having one drum per student in music class will give each child and equal opportunity to practice focus while allowing them to all move and learn at the same time. We currently have only 8 hand drums of varying sizes. Some students get to play drums while others tap sticks or clap hands as they wait their turn. It is often a challenge to give every one of the 22-29 students enough time to learn and practice the music during the 40 minute class time. When you donate to this project, you are not only giving the children instruments, you are giving the gift of time; time to learn new skills and time express their inner song. Music helps young minds to expand their knowledge and young bodies gain confidence as they improve their musical skills. Drumming gives the students a chance to collaborate and create with their classmates while improving their interpersonal skills through the universal language of music.
