I am a speech therapist at a low income elementary school. This is my first year in elementary, and I have really enjoyed connecting with each of my students thus far. I want to continue providing positive learning experiences for each student to ensure their motivation towards improving their social and functional communication skills continues. My students range from pre-K through fifth grade. Many students on my caseload have developmental disabilities impacting functional communication. My goal is to increase my student's ability to communicate basic wants/needs, frustration/discomfort, and interact appropriately with peers. I want to provide the most individualized services for each of these students to watch their communication and social skills flourish. I am looking to gain new materials in my speech classroom to increase the opportunities for functional communication. I want my students to be excited to come to speech therapy because I have all the resources to help each of their needs. I am in need of a printer, laminating sheets, and velcro dots to make adaptive materials to increase opportunities for functional communication not only in speech therapy but also in the classroom. A library of books will support my students' language development. Books are extremely important and provide a great model of sentence structure, vocabulary, and problem solving. The addition of new books would impact my students significantly.
