Prek students learn through play and making connections! Unfortunately, my students do not have a dramatic play center in our classroom. I am a first-year teacher, therefore our resources are very limited. The dramatic play area would expose the students; who are all English Language Learners, to expanding vocabulary and be involved in cooperative learning. They would be exposed to communicating and building social skills along with fine motor skills. In Prek students should be given the experience of learning through play, that is why I believe a dramatic play center is necessary. The students would be able to make connections with common core subjects. The cash register would help students count and become experts in math. Dressing up as community helpers for a social studies lesson. Identifying nutritious food in our science lesson. Building a community using blocks for their fine motor skills. There are so many ways a dramatic play center would benefit my 20 ELL students. These are a few to name.
