When children play in the sand, mud, and water it invites a total sensory experience; physical, cognitive, and social emotional developmental areas. The mud kitchen and water exploration set will help support children to build their problem solving skills(cognitive) while strengthening fine and gross motor skills (physical). They will engage in open-ended play (all domains) and role play in a natural dramatic play environment (social emotional). Students will create sensory nerve connections in the brain (cognitive & social emotional) as they reconnect with nature. “Playing in natural spaces supports a child’s sense of self, allowing children to recognize their independence alongside an interdependence and connectedness with their ecological worlds.” Stuart Lester and Martin Maudsley, Play, Naturally: A review of children’s natural play What are your fondest memories as a child?
