The purpose of my book club is to build a community of confident readers who feel comfortable formulating opinions, and discussing stories from a wide array of genres. Even during the pandemic, my students and I continued our bookclub virtually and built an incredible bond during an unsettling time in our lives. As some students return to in-person learning, the webcam will be used for the online learners can see their classmates and join in the reading and classroom discussions. My class bookclub fosters interaction, cooperation, and collaboration. Additionally, the kids have a chance to discover what types of books interest them the most. When kids discover a genre that excites them, they are more inclined to spend time in those literary worlds and develop a positive attitude towards reading.
