Unaddressed mental health needs increase risk for suspension, expulsion, dropout, and entering the juvenile justice system. School psychologists are uniquely qualified providers and transcend many barriers to mental health support for students and families. The fact is, school is the #1 access point for students to get mental health support that can bolster their social/emotional skills and help ensure a bright future. Students who need services can receive them during the school day, during non-core instructional periods. The services provided by school psychologists are completely free to families, and school psychologists have the unique position of collaborating with school teams and families to ensure children's success. These play and art therapy tools will allow me to meet children where they're at and provide therapy in a mode that is most engaging and effective for them.
