To continue to meet our goal of creating competent, competitive citizens and exposing students to experiences they may not have otherwise, I am asking for support in the area of field trips. The Leonardo Museum offers great opportunities for students to engage in the content area of STEM. Should this project be funded, fifth-grade students will participate in a science lab where they will be building circuit boards. In addition, the students have been invited to engage in the Pompeii Exhibition (Leonardo Museum's explanation of the exhibit: What nature destroyed, it also preserved. The sudden disaster that destroyed the city also preserved a unique record of daily life at the height of the Roman Empire. Artifacts on loan from the Naples National Archaeological Museum in Italy take visitors through a unique Roman villa and onto the winding streets of Pompeii, exploring the forum, theater and marketplace along the way). This rare opportunity is a once in a lifetime event seeing as many of my students are not presented with travel or museum opportunities unless they are participating in school field trips.
