Being a first year special education teacher at a Title I school (large concentration of low-income families), I'd love to give my students all the tools that they need in order to succeed. We were given $150 to purchase supplies for our classrooms, but unfortunately it does not go very far. I have a resource classroom, which means that I pull small groups of students throughout the day to give extra instruction in different areas of need. Sometimes I have multiple groups going at one time and there is only one kidney bean shaped table in my classroom. I've tried to locate another, but have been told by they are "hard to come by." These tables make it so much easier to teach small groups; you can see what each student is writing down and each student has the same access to the teacher and materials, which is why I am hoping to get another. I am also asking for a couple of bean bags, and a rug. I have one beanbag chair and one rug in my classroom right now, but not all seven students can fit on them. I'd like for all of them to be comfortable when reading so that it will become something that they enjoy and look forward to. Lastly, I am a new teacher and one in special education, which means that I need to be very organized. The more files, folders, binders and organization systems, the better! The more organized I am, the more time I save and can put toward my students.
