Distance learning is an unprecedented challenge academically and socially for students, families, and teachers alike. Educators around the nation are working to bring normalcy and innovation to questions such as: How do we support our special populations like ELL and SPED? How do we support families whose work schedules conflict with the school schedule? How do make sure students feel engaged in and supported by their learning community? Nearpod begins to answer the challenging questions of distance learning by exciting and supporting learners, "Near far, wherever they are." Just as in class, I can see students eagerly running to their Chromebooks to join our lessons. They diligently work through their lesson in awe of the videos and virtual field trips to places like the Pennsylvania State House where the Constitutional Convention was held and exploring the wonderment of the Amazon Rainforest as we study ecosystems. Students are thrilled at the different ways they can prove their mastery of the content through quizzes, matching pairs, polls and so much more. Additionally, Nearpod has supports for English Language Learners such as explicit language instruction and dynamic media tools. It has a self-paced mode that allows students to access learning at a time that is most convenient for them. Finally, it offers lessons in Social and Emotional Learning and game-based learning that connects students to one another which is essential during a time that can be isolating for so many. Ultimately, Nearpod with give students ownership of their studies through inclusive and active digital instruction experiences and bring the joy of learning right into their homes.
