Preschoolers learn so much through play and role play. Having an area in the classroom where they can role play and recreate real-life experiences but also learn what they are not able to learn at home is so crucial to their education. My children love the dramatic play area but currently the furniture is falling apart, there is very few items in this area such as food, babies, utensils, kitchen supplies, costumes due to the materials being so old and no money coming in. Yes there are a lot of items on my list but honestly that's how much we are lacking and how much we really need stuff. The items on my list are all so important because they are all items that will help teach these children life skills that they may not be learning at home. In this area the children are learning about foods, healthy foods, family style eating, proper way to set the table, community helpers, taking care of babies, taking care of themselves, kitchen materials, cooking, but also role playing. In our classroom we use this area for so much! We change the dramatic play area every month which is why there are so many different items on my list. We have an apple orchard, fruit and farm stand, doctors office, recycle center, veterinarian, fire station, police station, restaurant, grocery store, hospital and even a construction site. Even though we try so hard to change the dramatic play area and educate them on different places we do not have enough items for them to properly engage and learn. Cardboard boxes and paper materials only last so long but also with the items we have only two friends can play in this area and there should be a least four.
