These supplies will help foster creativity by letting students create their own self portraits. We create self portraits by using crayon resist with crayon snowflakes and then using watercolor to paint over it. It will also foster a love for reading because of other assignments that we do such as illustrations from short stories, poems and personal stories that the students have read or imagined. We create a "Shel Silverstein" inspired illustration where the students read one of his poems and they have to do their own illustrations for the poem before "Shel Silverstein's" illustration is revealed to them. The students learn to visualize what they are reading and therefore have an advantage over someone that does not have this experience. I also use watercolor paper to create sculptures. We studied ancient Egypt and created bracelets to represent Egyptian artifacts.
