Through this grant, students will immerse themselves in the technical world with a computer science mindset, and participate in hands-on experiences of physical computing, not offered in a typical classroom. The student learning is enhanced in this setting through spontaneous experiences that only occur while practicing and debugging a live device. In addition to enhanced learning of content within the curriculum, this experience offers unique opportunities for students to collaborate and form a community with their peers. With the Piper Computer Kit students will use the devices in high ability/honors science class as well as general education elective computer science stand alone classes. The Piper Computer Kit will be integrated to allow students to create a project and develop skills, tools, and confidence that will directly transfer to industry and careers that are extremely important locally and globally.
