These books will enhance our classroom library by providing quality literature for students who struggle to read traditional book text. It will allow my culturally diverse students to read about characters who look like them, who have similar traditional customs they are familiar with, or to see themselves in the characters as they able to read independently for pleasure while also learning about other culturally diverse characters. These new graphic novels will increase my students global knowledge and promote reading while also allowing a struggling reader access to quality literature that they can enjoy and relate to. My students have shown a greater interest in daily independent reading since I have included graphic novels in my classroom library and have started social conversations about the books they read. It's a win-win!
