The demographics of my students are approximately half Hispanic and half African-American. Our school is a Title 1 school in Texas, which means that a majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch. They do not let this define them, however, as they aim to succeed in whatever arena they find themselves. They are an amazing and eager group of young adults that yearn for knowledge every single day. They aim high and many of students hope to attend elite universities such as Harvard and Yale. They are never satisfied with simply passing their exams and have high expectations for themselves. They understand that college is only possible if they put forth the effort now to properly prepare themselves. Lastly, while some do have many issues to deal with at home or in their communities, they are persistent in their beliefs that they can and will succeed.
