In my homeroom, we have been doing a read along and it is the time students look most forward to each day. However, I need my kids to be able to read their own books to help with their English language learning, memory skills, and general brain function. Reading from a single book aloud is not enough. Reading has been shown to improve outcomes for students, and the lack of access to resources should never be a barrier to achievement. My kids are asking for books daily, and I believe they deserve them. These books will allow my students to read something they are interested in everyday at their own level. With students who are ELL, and at a wide range of ability, this allows me as a teacher to meet their diverse needs so all my kids can grow.
