This year my students came into my classroom with the hopes of finding a book in our library that they were interested in. As a teacher, it is my job to make sure they are finding book titles that they love and want to read. That's where the love for reading begins! I knew to make this happen my students had to be a part of the process! Students were assigned to groups of 3-4 and collaborated with one another to research book titles that they wanted in our classroom library. Students used many resource sites, listened to new book release trailers, scoured blogs to read descriptions of books, and also collected data from their classmates to find books that the class would enjoy. The ending result... the book title list you will find with titles personally select from the students in both reading classes. Want to know how this impacted my students? Here's what one student said on their ending reflection, "I learned that there are a lot of books online that I wanna read!" Another student said it, "opened up minds to new books". I know that student choice in what they read will greatly impact their ability to live a reading life and improve their reading abilities! Thank you for support! Keep reading on!
