About my class

The math manipulatives in this project will allow my students to get hands-on with math. Using a workshop style model, students will learn to embrace challenging problems and provide proofs to share their thinking with other young mathematicians and maybe even their grown-ups. All of these materials will help students to find value and JOY in mathematics, while building number sense that will help them to be successful beyond the classroom as mathematicians. My students need math manipulatives to bring joy back to the math classroom, to eliminate math anxiety, and to ultimately put math back into the world as mathematicians! By funding this project you will help students discover mathematical concepts by modeling complex problems taken from the real world in which they live. Students will enjoy the problem-solving process with a focus on just that, rather than begging for a correct answer to be given to them. Students will make proofs to share with the class, just as mathematicians have done since early mathematicians in ancient Egypt. Students will LOVE math, embrace challenges, solve problems, collaborate, and be ready for 21st century mathematics!
