The materials I am asking for are going to benefit my group of seniors by opening their minds to books that they may have never seen or read before. My goal is to prepare them for "the real world." I want them to be able to go out there and talk about the books that they read in high school, and how the content somehow relates to their lives. I want my students to be able to speak their mind on a topic because they have been taught the appropriate way to converse. As teens going into adulthood, communication is key. I want them to be able to feel comfortable having conversations about topics that may "stir the pot." I also want them to be able to not get into a screaming match when having these conversations. I want them to be able to control their emotions, while getting their point across. The books that I have requested are going to guide the few seniors that I have in my resource class, to open their minds to new ideas and challenges. I want them to feel that their idea on a certain topic is okay to share. I want them to not be afraid of their own thoughts and to go with their gut instinct. I feel that these books will help them to understand the world around them, and that they may share a similar story to the characters that are in the book.
