Working in a research based science class, it is important for students to learn the history of scientific research. This not only includes the historical methods used in scientific research, but also the ethics involved throughout time. Having students read this book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, they will not only gain an appreciation of the historical research methods, but also the ethical dilemmas involved in using (and abusing) people's consent and use of their biological materials. They will gain an appreciation of the need for consent in medical and biological research, as well as the ethical components in the use or abuse of those biological materials donated for science.

About my class

Working in a research based science class, it is important for students to learn the history of scientific research.
