Our district utilizes a program for math instruction. However, the more research we do as a school community, the more we see the need for unique, hands-on, real-world based mathematical exploration. Our instruction is not matching all of our students' needs. These tools will allow us to make math "fun & exciting" and to give our students additional exposure to math. The games and manipulatives we are asking for are the kinds of materials we know will engage our students in exploration and discussion, thus deepening the learning experience. In addition, by having the yoga balls, our students that need to move while learning will be able to do so safely. Our hope is that by taking math "out of the book" that we will reach those students that need to see the deeper meaning in mathematical concepts. We hope to build lifelong mathematicians...and bring out in our students the desire to continue in their mathematical development well beyond elementary school.
