By having a calming zone in our classroom, the students will learn how to stop, think, and calm down when faced with upsetting situations. When my students take a moment and remove themselves from the situation, this provides them the opportunity to focus on their feelings and manage those feelings. They are then able to see the problem and determine a solution to the problem. By going into the calm down tent, the students will have the sensory materials combined with visual cues they need to help them manage their emotions. The students will then be able to determine the problem and the solution. Our classroom has the tent and the visuals, now all we need are the mat (for safety), pillow, and the sensory materials. Thank you for your time and help with this important project!
