We want to meet each child at his/her level of processing and regulating, yet we work in a large school of Autism comprising thirteen classrooms that is absent of a sensory room. Thus, we are creating a much-needed sensory room as an outlet to offer our students sensory items and experiences needed to help them maintain calm, focused states so that they don't seek out unmet sensory needs in ways that cause loss of attention during school tasks. By donating to this cause, you are giving our children tools to strengthen their self modulation skills to better succeed in the classroom and to be their best, mindful selves with their classmates and staff in the school. We are asking for a foam floor mat and bean bag chair to enable our students to comfortably sit and enjoy their time when inside the sensory room. Also, we are planning to use an ocean wave projector as well as LED strip lights around the room to add visual and calming stimulation. We need a portable bluetooth speaker to put on calming music for auditory stimulation. Some of our students struggle with proprioception, in other words "knowing where your body is in space", and they need extra deep pressure. We are requesting a weighted blanket to provide this pressure while they lie down on a floor mat. In order to further stimulate the tactile/touch sense, we are asking for gel tiles that would be placed both on the floor and wall so that the children can touch them with their feet and hands. Finally, due to lack of an outlet in the designated space for the sensory room, we need an extension cord to connect the electronic equipment to provide soft lighting. Please help us make this sensory room a reality. Thank you!
