I've taught several years, but this is the first time I've taught 5th grade. My students are passionate about reading and connecting to inspiring and exciting books that help them expand their worldviews! Simply put, we need more good books. Students spend at least 30 minutes every day in a reader's workshop in which they independently read and then respond and write about what they are reading. This will allow students more choice and options for books they are interested in. We have a small classroom library of donated and older books. However, we need more diverse and culturally relevant books that we can relate to. We also love graphic novels and would love to read more of those.
