As a first year teacher I have spent most of my time and money gathering books for students to read. I know that writing will help them increase their reading ability, and vice-versa. My current writing center is a table, tracing pages, and crayons. With the supplies I am requesting my students will be able to use an organized writing center during literacy center time to work on their writing skills through various activities. These kids are already excited about reading and drawing pictures of their favorite parts of books, a little more time and practice and they will be writing about these books as well. My goal for every student is a book at year's end that they have written and illustrated to share with their family.
