My project will benefit my students in many ways. The Spanish emergent readers will provide my Spanish speaking students the opportunity to continue to thrive and develop their native language through reading books in their language. This will allow them to feel included in their learning experience and know that it will provide them with a comfort to participate and be confident. These readers will increase their comprehension and fluency skills. This opportunity will also build a learning community with the other students in my class that exposes them to a culture and language that they may or may not be familiar with. The easel pads would allow my students to be creative and develop their thinking when learning the structure of a sentence and to provide an illustration as well as label, during collaborative learning time as well as provide the opportunity for me to create anchor charts for the students to make reference to while they are learning. The carpet is greatly needed for the students to have organization on the carpet during calendar time as well as provide phonics enrichment for students that struggle with letter recognition and sounds. For example, I would say Sam walk to the letter S and say the letter or sound as you clap 3 times. Connecting with the letters and sounds is so important for Kindergartners at my school because many of them did not have the opportunity to attend pre-school to get that phonetic background which leads me to the beginning sound game. This will help the letter sounds and recognition tie all together by having the practice to use those sounds in a game to decipher the beginning sound of a picture or word. This project will allow my students to add to their confidence and increase the fluency.
