Art provides my students with the opportunity to practice creative expression and choice-making. Art is also a powerful way to work on visual-perceptual skills, requesting, and fine-motor development. For many students with special needs, traditional art supplies are inaccessible and require physical support of an adult in order to complete a project. Through this project, I have requested specialized art supplies to promote independence so that my students can produce their own beautiful works of art. The "Melissa and Doug Jumbo Paintbrush Set" will support my students with fine motor limitations in independently grasping the brush in order to paint. With accessible paintbrushes, the possibilities are endless for what my children can create. I have also requested several educational toys specific to the needs, developmental abilities, and interests of my students. These toys will be implemented in daily instruction to target a variety of skills my students are currently working on. Some of these toys will be used during our "buddy program" which provides my students an opportunity to work on cooperative play skills and engage socially with their typically developing peers. One such toy is the "Buddy Balloon Launch Game" which will allow my students to take turns with their peers launching balloons around the classroom which will surely guarantee a fun time for all!
