My students love to discuss ideas! The ideas that get them talking most, often come from the exciting new books they read. Our class library is an easily accessible way to expose students to diverse thinking as they nurture their already existing love of reading. Adding these Mock Newbery titles to our class bookshelf will ignite thinking and conversation in our classroom and with other sixth graders district wide! These books will teach empathy. They will give students the chance to solve mysteries and to learn about history and current world events. These books will change the way students view themselves, others, and their world. Your generous donation will help my students participate in our district sixth grade Mock Newbery challenge. Reading these new books will serve as the springboard to a district wide literacy event planned for early 2020 where students will discuss books, video conference with authors, and develop passion project work surrounding the books' themes. These books, and the opportunity to collaborate about them with peers, will inspire my students to read more, know more, and do more!
