I dream of offering engineering centers in my library media center to encourage my students to use everyday materials, books, and modern technology to create, explore, problem solve and collaborate. We are requesting STEAM resources and technology to challenge them to design, create, solve problems, and work collaboratively. The materials I choose for the STEAM engineering activities through Donor's Choose will bring a "WOW" factor for my students. These centers in the library will incorporate movement and self-exploration to help my students develop 21st century skills that they will use long into the future. Engineering tasks will allow my students to think divergently, inventively, and imaginatively; solve problems with specified constraints; build creative design skills; and apply structures to real-world designs. I believe these high interest materials will inspire my students to learn through play. This will enable them to build skills like critical thinking and innovation that will help them in their academic careers. I will be able to connect their engineering projects to curriculum and quality literature through collaboration with classroom teachers. Engineering centers will enhance my library program and help to accommodate all the learning styles of my students.
