First grade is all about learning to read and understand math. Some students are reading at a fourth grade level while others are still learning the sounds of the letters in the alphabet. Same thing goes for math. Some students have wonderful number sense when they come to first grade and others are still learning the numbers to ten. The Osmo Genius Kit is a fabulous way to differentiate student learning in both subjects. It gives students hands on practice with manipulatives in making words and working with math concepts. It self corrects and adapts according to the student's level. It is a highly appropriate technology tool for students in first grade. I will be able to work with small groups as our first grader's practice skills we have already learned.
