While we read Macbeth, our students will talk about the metaphorical mask he wears, putting on a pretty face when needed, a cold-blooded murderer beneath. We will discuss the duality of both his character and human nature in general. We will connect this theme of duality with a hands-on project where students will paint and decorate a mask either representing both parts of either a literary character's or their own duality. We will then research and present poems or songs about the duality. As a closing, we will compose our own song or poem about duality we've experienced. We will discuss the masks we wear every day, why we have this urge to hide and protect our true selves, and what risks and benefits come from exposing those. Overall, this project will address literacy, writing, arts, music, character ed., and mental health.
