These materials will provide opportunities for learners of all ages and abilities to become STEM learners! This year, our whole building is engaged in applying hands-on learning and inquiry into all areas! The use of STEM learning aligns perfectly with our IB practice of being thinkers and problem solvers. The maker space and STEM materials will allow our students to be innovative collaborators who are learning with joy! During these projects, students will be working together and developing their communication and social skills. This is a critical part of being a successful citizen! It also provides them the opportunities to think critically and be problem solvers, which is an important life skill. These materials will provide us the ability to teach the students skills they will need for their future, such as coding and using technology to create and collaborate. From creating functional machines out of cardboard using the MakeDo kit, to programming and building their own LEGO robot, the sky is the limit for their creativity! With enough materials for everyone to have access to, we will be able to open the minds of every child in our building. I believe the most important benefit of having the materials to support our students in the maker space is to show them that we believe in them. They have continuously voiced many different ideas and hopes for their learning, and to be able to support them in following their interests would mean the world to them. These resources are usually not available for home use because they are cost prohibitive. But to have them available for our entire school of learners allows them choices to create and learn. In our maker space we work together as teams, so please join our team and help us grow!
