By using a variety of literary-based materials, I'm presenting my students with an array of vocabulary, grammatical components, and narrative forms. My students love puppets, stories, interactive materials, and multi-sensory experiences during therapy sessions. These materials and activities are implemented during small group, push-in rotations in our moderate-severe special day classes. I see 8-12 students in one setting. We often target receptive and/or expressive language skills through various activities. Presenting them with a variety of language-rich materials helps them remain focused and engaged in activities. This increased engagement creates a space for them to reach their full potential and to interact more with their peers and support staff. I strive to create a comfortable, safe, and engaging therapy session for them while addressing their individualized educational needs.
