As we know, many children with autism require unique learning strategies. Many need a highly structured environment which allows them to feel safe when they get overstimulated or if they should need a break from the other areas in the classroom. My "autism learning zone" will provide children with a structured learning area with sensory "cool down" toys, comfort seating, sensory manipulatives and a few toys. As a speech-language pathologist I work with toddlers, preschoolers, and young elementary students that have severe impairments in communication. I will use this area to work on communication skills for children with autism and other severe disabilities. Thank you for your consideration
