Project Lead The Way provides transformative learning experiences for PreK-12 students and teachers across the U.S. As a PLTW teacher, I strive to create an engaging, hands-on classroom environment and empower students to develop in-demand knowledge and skills they need to thrive in the real-world. In Intro to Engineering Design (IED), students dig deep into the engineering design process, applying math, science, and engineering standards to hands-on projects like designing a new toy or improving an existing product. They work both individually and in teams to design solutions to a variety of problems using the Inventor 3-D modeling software, and using an engineering notebook to document their work. One of the final projects the students will complete in the IED course is an automata in which the student will design his/her own working model, create the physical wooden box, cams and moving parts as well as use the Inventor software to make their personal designs come to life.
