When my students are asked to design and build items that reflect the topics we have been discussing, they are often met with challenges in finding parts that can be modified to meet their specific vision. Whether making catapults, vehicles, or molecular models, they regularly encounter hurdles that could readily be overcome by having access to 3D printing technology directly in the classroom A very small group of my students have access to 3D printing either in vocational programs or at home and have earned the jealousy of my other students when their projects are fully realized by their ability to produce parts to solve specific problems. Having a 3D printer available in the classroom will make these solutions available to all of my students.
